Introducing the Kids Corner

For over two years, the Children’s page on The Family History Guide site has provided fun family history activities for youngsters. Now it’s time to take the next step … introducing the Kids Corner, where kids can explore family history activities and discover what it’s all about..

The Kids Corner takes the place of the Children’s page in the Activities menu. Here are the new features in the Kids Corner:

Focus on Kids

The Children’s page was directed at parents, giving them tips on how to involve youngsters with family history activities. The Kids Corner flips the script: it speaks directly to kids, on their level. That way, they can explore the Kids Corner themselves, and with the rise of tech skills among the young, it seems to be a natural fit.

Tiles and  Categories

The Kids Corner page is consistent with the layout of the other Activities pages (Family, Individuals, and Youth). It features a picture tile for each activity, along with helpful descriptions and links. The categories are as follows:

New Activities and Videos

There are now over 45 tiles, most of them with links to multiple activities. At this point, 14 of the tiles are embedded videos that kids or parents can watch to learn more about the activities, or see how they are done.

Links for Parents and Leaders

Instead of the Motivation and Coaching section of the Children’s page, there are now links for parents and leaders in each of the categories. These contain helpful tips and resources, and they are in a hide/show format, so they are not intrusive to the learning experience of kids exploring the activities.

So, spread the word, and invite a few kids you know to check out the cool new Kids Corner in THe Family History Guide!

  1. Bob, this is such a great post and one that I know Angelle and you worked very hard on while getting it ready for The Family History Guide. I adore the video from Family Search included in this section of the Family History Guide entitled Genealogy is…! So cute and so great to know they know what Family History is but are not too sure about Genealogy!
Kids are born with the technology gene, I always say. It just seems to be so! They have been prepared for this time in history and it just flows out of their fingers with seemingly little effort. They will love this section found under Activities on the Home page drop down menu at http://www.thefhguide.com
