Introducing Filae, a French Genealogical Treat

FamilySearch has added a new Partner to its collection: it’s the French genealogical records site Filae. If you have French ancestry, or think you may have, Filae is a resource you definitely should check out. You can access the FamilySearch Partner page for Filae here. Signing up for Partner access enables Filae to access information in your part of the Family Tree.

From the Church News: “Filae, organized in 1994, contains more than 150 million indexed images and billions of French records — including collections of civil registrations (births, marriages and deaths) and census, church and military records — dating back to the year 1500. Filae’s website is available in French and English.” See the entire article here.

Highlights

Here are a few highlights from the site:

  • Records are available for persons born before 1920,
  • The site is available in English and French.
  • You can create a tree on Filae, manually or via a GEDCOM file, and sign up to receive hints for ancestors in the tree.
  • Search for a person by name in all collections, or explore hundreds of individual collections of French records.
  • Search other members’ trees for ancestor records.
