Saying Goodbye to the Word Tracker

The Microsoft Word Tracker is one of the earliest features of The Family History Guide, going back to the early days of the site. As the website has progressed, it’s becoming clear that the Word Tracker is nearing the end of its service. As of Monday, January 18 2021, only the Online Tracker will be used. Here are the reasons we are moving to the Online Tracker (OLT) instead of the Word Tracker:

The OLT

  • Has easier status tracking with its use of slider bars
  • Provides an automatic date of last update
  • Is automatically backed up and does not require saving data manually
  • Is Google Translate-enabled, so you can view and edit in any language
  • Is printer-friendly, so you can easily print selected pages.
  • Is integrated with powerful reporting features, such as Group Reports and Stars.

Also, retiring the Word Tracker means that we (The Family History Guide Association) only need to update the Online Tracker, not the Word Tracker, whenever we add Goals or Choices to the website.

If you have not yet created an Online Tracker account, it’s easy to do:

  1. Open the Online Tracker.
  2. Click Register.
  3. Fill in the fields and click Register. Note: Your Online Tracker account is separate from FamilySearch or any other company.

See you in the Online Tracker!

P.S. – If you have downloaded Word Tracker files you can continue to use them, but they will not be downloadable from the site.
