Giving the Gift of Family History

Because I am passionate about family history, and because it is Christmas-time, I searched “family history gifts” on Google. There were about 3,870,000 results in 0.62 seconds!   This information leaves no question in my mind that people love to give family history gifts!  These gifts bless lives all around the globe – they “keep on giving,” and can truly make a significant difference in someone else’s life. The Family History Guide is such a gift – a present that my family and I  will be sharing with others for Christmas this year.  And…it is absolutely free! We love giving the website address  www.thefhguide.com  to anyone and everyone!

In the “Service Activities”  section of the Family History Activities for Youth page is the suggestion to take giving the gift of The Family History Guide a step further – by including a gift of your time:
Y6-02: Use The Family History Guide
You can help others learn to do family history by using The Family History Guide.

This is truly a gift from the heart and can make all the difference for others as you help them begin or continue a successful and enjoyable family history journey.  Check out the trackers to help chart progress, and learn even more about them in these blog posts:  What’s New in the Online Tracker and Using the Online Trackers With Your Family.

You will find more ideas for giving the gift of family history on The Family History Guide’s Activites Page on the tabs “Service Activities” for families,  singles, and youth.  Here is a free gift idea is found in the family service activities section:

F6-03: Do a Family History Interview
Record, transcribe and post the interview on FamilySearch Memories.

Read about our family’s experience using a Family History Center Story Room to record grandparent’s stories (call ahead for the nearest center and to make sure they have this option).  The 52 stories Project is a fantastic gift that you can give each week of the year.  How could these personal gifts not be received with gratitude? I think they are the best kind of gifts at Christmas or anytime!

In an article entitled 5 Ways to Give the Gift of Family History,  there are gift ideas shared that cost some money, but you may consider (like I do) a journal, family history photo blanket, family history puzzle,  magnets, or family calendar to be worth the price.  With 3,870,000 resources on Google for family history gift giving and your creativity, this Christmas just might be one of the best ever!

In a RootsTech 2017 presentation, Rhonna Farrer advised: “Be thinking of ways that you can … get [genealogy] in the hands of your family, this brings history and your story to life.” What family history gifts will you be giving this year?
