Your 15 Minutes Are Here …

One of the most common reasons people use for not getting involved in family history is, “I don’t have the time.” Yet if you ask busy people if they could spare 15 minutes a day—or every other day—for something very important, chances are they’d say yes. That’s where the “15 Minutes” approach can be helpful. We recently added a “15 Minutes” button on the Home page of The Family History Guide; an example is shown at the right.

  • The Quick Tour button shows a 6-minute video about the features of The Family History Guide.
  • The Get Started button takes you to the Get Started (Quick Start) page, where you can review family history or computer basics, or
  • The 15 Minutes button takes you to a newly revised “More Things to Do” page. This page is geared towards doing family history tasks and activities in short spurts, which may be ideal for young families and others who have busy schedules.

More Things to Do, and Tips for 15-Minute Sessions

The intro to the More Things to Do page explains the concept of working in short segments. It also offers links to

  • “15-Minute Magic,” which is a list of tips for making your time count with family history,
  • Fitting Family History into Your Life,” a PDF document with suggestions for activities that span 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, and 2 hours or more. This document is courtesy of Janet Helland, who coordinates the Temple and Family History Consultants at the Sandy Granite family history center.

The family history “to do” items in the More Things to Do page are shown below. On the website, all links in green are active.

We hope you enjoy the 15-Minute approach and the many fun and useful tasks and activities it offers!
