Updates to the Home Page and Get Started Page

We’ve introduced a few changes to the Home page and Get Started page recently. The goal is to simplify the flow a bit, especially for those who are new to the website. The Home page has fewer links overall, and the Get Started page focuses on four main areas, with a link to additional tasks to do. For all pages, the top menu remains unchanged, so quick navigation to any part of The Family History Guide is easily available.

Here’s a brief look at what’s different …

Home Page

The top part of the Home page focuses on two features, shown in large buttons: the Quick Tour video and the Get Started page. This is designed to help new users quickly get a grasp of what The Family History Guide is about. Below the buttons are links to About (About The Family History Guide), Blog (our blog site), and Association (The Family History Guide Association). Note: the picture will be changed from time to time for variety.

The next section down the page highlights videos, and the one below that highlights recent blog posts.

Get Started Page

When you click the Get Started button, you’ll see a page that focuses on four areas:

  • 1. Family History Basics
  • 2. Computer Basics
  • 3. Information about Projects
  • 4. Starting a Project

At the bottom of the page you can click a link to take you to an additional page of tasks. These were previously contained in the Get Started page but have now been separated into a new “More to Do” page:

We hope you enjoy the new streamlined look of the Home page and Get Started page. Thanks for your support of The Family History Guide!
