Inside the Guide: Free Charts

Free is good, when it comes to charts that can help you display your family history research. The Family History Guide has no shortage of links to some great forms you can use. Let’s take a look at what’s available for free pedigrees, fan charts, and more.

TreeSeek.com

In Project 1 of The Family History Guide, Goal 12 has a nice variety of free custom pedigree charts.  Choice A leads you to sign in to TreeSeek.com, an App Gallery partner with FamilySearch.

Follow the steps in Choice A to produce a fan, pedigree, photo, or name cloud chart, starting with your selected person. The charts contain names and information that are contained in your FamilySearch account.

Charts for Kids

Some charts are meant to be just plain fun, and The Family History Guide has links to plenty of those, too. In the Children’s Activities section, you’ll see a number of free family tree chart options in Part 2: Family Tree Activities. Here’s an example from the LoveToKnow site, designed for adding ancestor photos:

Other Chart Sites

Choice B includes charts from ObituariesHelp.org, Ancestry, and About.com. These free charts do not include names from your FamilySearch tree; instead, they can be used as a background for you to write information, paste photos, etc.

ObituariesHelp.org

Here’s a 3-generation pedigree chart from ObituariesHelp.org. You can paste photos onto it.

There are 127 printable forms on ObituariesHelp.org, including fans, bowtie charts, hourglass, and more.

Ancestry.com

Charts from Ancestry.com include ancestral charts, research trackers, family group sheets, family relationship charts, and more. Click the link below to see a sample research calendar you can use.
