What’s New in The Family History Guide

Here are a few of the updates we’ve included recently in The Family History Guide and some additional details for each:

Surname eBooks

As described in  an earlier blog post, we’ve added over 900 links to online books on our Surname eBooks page. As a follow-up, we have included instructions at the top of that page for how to access many more free surname books in the FamilySearch Catalog. The public-access books can be easily downloaded and printed so you can search for interesting family biographies and pedigrees.

JAWS Goal

“JAWS” stands for Job Access With Speech. It’s a screen reader that helps blind or visually impaired users access FamilySearch Family Tree. We have added Goal 7 to FamilySearch Project 6: Help that explains how to access and use JAWS for navigating and updating Family Tree. The Choices are A) Create a JAWS account and sign in to FamilySearch; B) Perform tree update tasks and research; and C) Learn more about JAWS.

More FamilySearch Help Center Links

FamilySearch has updated many of its Help Center articles, and we are adding links to a number of them, in Choices where the topics are discussed. This also involves creating Resources sections where additional articles are provided for reference.
