Spring Term for Online Classes, Sandy Granite FHC

The schedule for the spring term of online classes at the Sandy Granite family history center is now ready. These are free Zoom classes, each starting at 7 p.m. Mountain Time on Tuesday evenings. To attend any of the classes, visit the Classes page on granitefhc.com, click the class title, and follow the link that appears.

Recordings of the classes are posted in the Videos and Tutorials page within several days of the event, in case you are not able to attend the session.

6 Apr – Bob Taylor – What’s Inside The Family History Guide

Join us for a look into some of the cool features of The Family History Guide that you may not be aware of. The class will begin with a brief tour of the site, for those who are new to it. – Bob is the creator of The Family History Guide and Education Assistant at the Sandy Granite family history center.

13 Apr – Robin Fuellenbach – FamilySearch Tips and Tricks

Are you getting the most from your FamilySearch experience? See what you may be missing, with these tips and tricks for using FamilySearch. – Robin has served for years training new missionaries at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.

20 Apr – James Tanner – Using Land and Property Records in Your Research

Some of the most overlooked but valuable resources for genealogy are land and property records. This class will help you find them and use them more effectively in your research. – James is the Chairman of the Board of The Family History Guide Association and frequent genealogy presenter for MyHeritage and the BYU Family History Library.

27 Apr – Karen Andrews – Developing Indexing Skills

This class is a follow-on to the Basic Indexing session taught in February. You’ll learn additional indexing skills to help you index more efficiently and more accurately. – Karen is a long-time Temple & Family History Consultant at the Sandy Granite family history center and Stake Indexing Leader.

4 May – Angelle Anderson – Family History Resources for Latter-day Saints

Here’s your chance to explore a wealth of family history resources, designed for Latter-day Saints. Catch the vision of how to get more people involved in temple and family history work, while making the experiences memorable. – Angelle created the Activities and Come, Follow Me Companion sections in The Family History Guide.

11 May – Miles Meyer – Maps and Surnames

What’s the connection between maps and surnames, and how can these tools boost your family history research efforts? Dive into the details in this online class. – Miles is the Education Director for The Family History Guide Association, Director of the Vero Beach FL family history center, and frequent RootsTech presenter.

18 May – Christy Pugh – Partner Overview: Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast

Learn the differences between the Ancestry, MyHeritage, and Findmypast websites, and discover how these sites can help you find records and ancestors in ways you may not be aware of. – Christy is the Innovation and Outreach Assistant at the Sandy Granite family history center.

25 May Chris Cummings – Finding Your Ancestors in the U.S. Census

What family history treasures can you find in the United States Federal Census? Learn a bit of everything in this class, including census background,  using census records by decade, and examples of finding ancestors in records. – Chris recently retired from a long career at FamilySearch and has served as a Temple & Family History Consultant.

If you have ancestors from Scandinavian countries, this is the place to get started. Learn about where to find records, naming customs, emigration sources, and more. – James is the Chairman of the Board of The Family History Guide Association and frequent genealogy presenter for MyHeritage and the BYU Family History Library.

8 Jun – Kathryn Grant – Discovering English Church Records

Church records can be some of the useful for your research in England. Discover where to find them, what they contain, and the differences between various church records in England. – Kathryn is an instructional designer, blogger for FamilySearch, and frequent webinar presenter for the BYU Family History Library.

15 Jun – Debbie Weaver – Furthering Your Family History with DNA Testing

In this day and age of family history miracles, some of the best are the ones we experience from DNA tests. Learn how to interpret DNA test results and discover cousins and family lines you may not be aware of. – Debbie has presented at RootsTech in partnership with FamilySearch and is a Temple & Family History Consultant at the Sandy Granite family history center.

Making family history discoveries can be exciting, but sharing your family history with others can be just as rewarding. Learn some basic approaches for sharing what you’ve found with family, friends, and anyone who might benefit. – Janet is the Patron Services Assistant at the Sandy Granite family history center, training and assisting the many Temple & Family History Consultants there.
