QUIKLinks – Just in Time

One of the popular design features of The Family History Guide is what we call “just-in-time learning.” With just-in-time learning, the articles and videos you need are placed right where you need them as you study about a topic.

So the next logical step? We’re combining QUIKLinks with just-in-time learning. In addition to the lists of QUIKLinks at the top and bottom of country and state pages, we are embedding them in the Goals that talk about them. That way you can learn about a certain kind of research or record and then try out what you’ve learned with some QUIKLinks searches.

For example, here’s a look at part of Goal 2 in the Australia country page:

Notice the new QUIKLinks at the end of the Goal. When you’ve learned about Australian vital records, you can click on a QUIKLink to start searching one of the record collections. Here’s the list, enlarged:

FS is a FamilySearch record collection, and AC is an Ancestry record collection. To keep things simple, we have included only the larger record collections in the QUIKLinks lists, but you can easily find smaller ones when you visit the search screens for FamilySearch and Ancestry. Also, these QUIKLink lists do not include province- or state-specific links, but those are available in the general QUIKLink list for the country page.

So far we have “just-in-time” QUIKLinks for Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada and provinces, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, English counties, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Russia, Scotland, Slovakia, South Africa, and Spain.

What’s Next

Next we’ll add just-in-time QUIKLinks for Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United States and the 50 states, and England. Then, we’ll add QUIKLinks to MyHeritage and Findmypast record collections, for as many of these locations as possible.

  1. I loved the QUIKLinks before but now they are even MORE RELEVENT located where they are most needed in context. This just keeps getting better and better!

  2. It just doesn’t get any better than this. QUIKlink + Just In Time Learning will become a great pair! QuikLinks was what brought the gasp from the Regional Training experience this past Sunday!
    Wait until the see this!
