New QRB Videos: Maps and Surnames

We have recently posted three new Quick Research Basics videos on our YouTube Channel. These are by Miles Meyer, Education Director for The Family History Guide Association. They have subtitle captions in Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, and Filipino, and they cover the following topics:

  • Using Historical Maps—Learn how historical maps can help you locate your ancestors in time and location.

  • Using Mapping Tools—This video helps you learn how to use geo-mapping tools such as Google Maps, Google Earth, WhatWasThere, HistoryPin, etc. to see how old maps and photos for your ancestors relate to current-day locations.

  • Surname Maps—Learn how to use surname maps (maps that show density of surname locations) to guide your efforts in locating immigrant ancestors.
