Booth Magic: Behind the Scenes at RootsTech
As we celebrate our tenth year, we can’t help but mention some of the unsung heroes of our journey. Working quietly behind the scenes is a group of dedicated people who are instrumental in creating and assembling our RootsTech booth. Each year our booth gets larger, and the setup team manages to pull off a three-day miracle.
Planning for the physical booth starts eight months before the RootsTech show opens. Many of the booth items are custom-made by some of these team members, such as the 12-foot high by 14-foot long booth tower.
The team loads a 20 foot U-Haul truck on a Monday and delivers all the booth pieces including tables, computers, A/V equipment, wiring, graphics, lighting, etc. early the next morning to the Salt Palace. Actual booth assembly begins early Tuesday morning after the carpet, electrical and internet wiring are in place.
From Monday morning until Wednesday evening is when the magic happens, and all the pieces come together. After assembly of the main tower, all of the other pieces to the puzzle are installed and tested, and any problems are corrected and tested again.
So what is seen on opening morning is the product of some wonderful people, and some sweat, worry, and ingenuity. Truly MAGIC!
