Happy Thanksgiving from The Family History Guide Association

The Family History Guide Association would like to wish each of you a happy Thanksgiving. We are especially grateful for

  • All of you who are diligently uncovering and preserving the details of our ancestors’ lives, through family history;
  • The amazing technological tools we are bleesed with, to accelerate the work of family history around the world; and
  • Our ancestors and their families who went before us, with their many sacrifices and contributions to who we are and the blessings we enjoy today.

Thanksgiving Fun Facts

This coming Thursday marks the 404th anniversary of the famous Thanksgiving celebration in the Plymouth Colony in 1621. Here are some interesting things you may or may not know about Thanksgiving in the United States:

  • Thanksgiving celebrations took place before the Plymouth Colony was established, such as the ones in the Virginia Colony.
  • Abraham Lincoln declared it a U.S. national holiday in 1863.
  • Pies, cranberries and potatoes were not part of the famous celebration.
  • In Canada, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October.
