Project 1: Family Tree

Goal 7: Adding Ancestors

Goal 7: Add ancestors you know about to the tree.

As you fill in the gaps in your part of the tree, you develop a sense of connection with your ancestors and your heritage. If you would like to practice making changes on a test family tree that will not affect the data on FamilySearch, visit beta.familysearch.org. The data in that test tree is re-populated from FamilySearch each December.
Note : If you don't have any ancestors to add at this time, skip to Goal 8.

Important: FamilySearch uses a shared, community tree. Before you add people to the tree, make sure they are not already in the tree, to avoid causing duplicates.

  5. If a match looks likely,
    a) Click the "View in Tree" link for that person to see details;
    b) If you believe this person is related to you, copy the person's ID; and
    c) Using "Find by ID", add that person in your part of the tree. (The person is now connected to you, not unconnected.)

  7. To remove names from the Recents menu,
    a) In the menu bar (upper left), click Recents;
