Places and Cultures

Get to know more about families around the world.

The world is full of fascinating people, places, and cultures. The Family History Guide makes it even easier to discover the history, geography, and cultures of your fellow planet-dwellers, including your own ancestors.

Use the country pages in The Family History Guide.

  1. In The Family History Guide, click the Countries menu and select "All Countries".
  2. Choose a country from the list and explore its pages. If you know what countries your ancestors are from, you'll probably want to check out those pages.
  3. At the top of each country page is a list of Goals. You can lick these to see the different research helps available for the country you selected.
  4. Below the list on the All Countries page is a More Countries link. Open that to see resources for a wider variety of places around the world.
  5. You can also use the Countries menu (top, near the right side) in The Family History Guide to find countries by region.

Explore the Geo/Culture/History Goals and other resources.

  1. In The Family History Guide, select a country.
  2. In the Goal list (near the top of the page), click the link for the final Goal, which is Geo/Culture/History.
  3. Have fun exploring the links on the page, which include National Geographic, iExplore, Wikipedia, etc.
  4. In The Family History Guide, use the FamilySearch Places app resource to learn about the areas where your ancestors lived.
  5. In Youth Activities, check out Google Maps and Street View Stories for more fun.
