The Updated Trainers Menu

We’ve done a bit of a makeover on the Trainers menu in The Family History Guide, simplifying the entries and adding a new Prepare a Class page. Here’s a summary of what’s new and improved in the Trainers menu.

Prepare a Class

The Prepare a Class page helps you with step-by-step instructions for preparing the classes you want to teach, either online or in person. These basic sections are included:

  • Presenting The Family History Guide—This section explains how to use the new Tour page as a way to easily present an Introduction to The Family History Guide.
  • Preparing an Online Topic Class—This section explains the basic steps to follow in preparing a topic class for online delivery, from finding material in The Family History Guide to using the Worksheet (see below).
  • Presenting an In-Person Topic Class—This section provides guidelines for presenting a class in person.
  • More Preparation Tips—This section adds tips for harnessing the power of articles and videos in your class presentation.

Worksheet (blank)

The Worksheet is a downloadable Word doc available in the Trainers menu. Instructions for filling it out are at the bottom of the document. The Worksheet helps you easily plan which resources in The Family History Guide you want to use and how you want to present them.

Sample Worksheet

The Sample Worksheet shows how a finished version might look with the content filled in. This sample is for a class on U.S. Newspapers, delivered online.

Note that the Sample Outlines are being discontinued. Instead of providing finished templates for classes, we are encouraging instructors to use the Worksheet to design classes that meet their needs.

Other Changes

The Class Preparation tips have been moved from the Trainers Corner to the Prepare a Class page, and the Audiences page has been move to the Trainers Corner section.

We hope you enjoy the Trainers menu and its new approach to preparing family history classes. Let us know if you have any questions or issues we can help you with.
