Latter-day Saint Youth

Take ancestors to the temple

Open the path to temple blessings for your ancestors.

The Invitation

When Elder David A. Bednar said, "Your fingers have been trained to text and tweet to accelerate and advance the work of the Lord—not just to communicate quickly with your friends," he was talking to you—the youth of the church!

"I invite the young people of the Church to learn about and experience the Spirit of Elijah. I encourage you to study, to search out your ancestors, and to prepare yourselves to perform proxy baptisms in the house of the Lord for your kindred dead (see D&C 124:28–36). And I urge you to help other people identify their family histories.

As you respond in faith to this invitation, your hearts shall turn to the fathers. The promises made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob will be implanted in your hearts. Your patriarchal blessing, with its declaration of lineage, will link you to these fathers and be more meaningful to you.

Your love and gratitude for your ancestors will increase. Your testimony of and conversion to the Savior will become deep and abiding. And I promise you will be protected against the intensifying influence of the adversary." General Conference October 2011, The Hearts of the Children Shall Turn

Partake Of The Promises

A sure way to confront and overcome what you are facing in today's world is to partake of the promised blessings of temple and family history work. You can survive and thrive in these latter days!

Preparing Names For The Temple

In a presentation at RootsTech 2014, Elder Neil A. Anderson gave this challenge:

He invited the youth to accept it, accomplish it, and share it. The next year, at RootsTech 2015, Elder Anderson added to the challenge, and "help someone else do the same" ...

Elder Anderson promises: "As you accept this challenge and teach it to others, I promise you that you will feel the beautiful link that binds us together as families through eternity. You will feel a happiness for those who accept your sacred offering. Your hearts will truly be turned to your fathers, and you will feel their hearts turned toward you. You will feel purpose and strength that will help you to avoid the temptations that surround you. You will better see the unseen—the eternal things that the world does not see.

As you add this work to your righteous life, the gift of the Holy Ghost will be a stronger influence upon you. Your belief in and appreciation of the Savior will increase. You will better understand the power of His Atonement and you will be safeguarded from the distractions that can so easily pull you from His commandments." RootsTech 2015

From Family Search: "The new Ordinances Ready feature in the FamilySearch Family Tree app and on FamilySearch.org helps you find ancestors awaiting ordinances. It can at the same time provide a discovery experience. The feature allows members to see their relationship to their ancestor and view available photos and stories.

When helping others, Ordinances Ready is a simple way to introduce members to the joy of family history, which may instill in them a deeper desire to connect with their ancestors." Read more in this FamilySearch blog post.

How will you prepare as many names for the temple as baptisms you perform in the temple, and help others to do the same?

"These are your days. You were born in a time of temples and technology. These are your days to more fully turn your hearts to your fathers and bring saving ordinances to millions within your families. These are your days to prepare for the Second Coming of the Savior.

As you contribute to this sacred work, your knowledge and faith in the Savior will increase and you will receive a more certain witness that life continues beyond the veil. You will receive protection against the temptations that surround you, and you will prepare yourself and the world you live in for the Second Coming of the Savior.

I know that life continues beyond the veil." Neil L. Anderson, These Are Your Days

What will you do to remain worthy to attend the temple and do work for the dead?
