Project 1: Findmypast Account

Goal 2: Customize Your Tree Settings

Goal 2: Customize your tree settings.

Customizing your Findmypast tree settings can help you connect more easily with other Findmypast users.

Choices

A Change your tree settings as needed.

  1. Click the Family Tree tab and then click the Settings wheel icon (right side) for the tree you want.
  2. To set the home person for the tree, type a name in the "Home person" field and select it from the list.
  3. If you want Findmypast to more easily connect you with relatives, type your name in the "You" field and select it from the list.
  4. In the "Name this tree" field, type the name for the tree. You can also choose to capitalize entire surnames.
  5. If you want to share information about your deceased ancestors with others, check the corresponding box. If the box is unchecked, other Findmypast users will not be able to see your tree information, and your tree will not be included in Findmypast's Tree-to-Tree Hinting feature.
  6. Click Save changes.

B Export or delete trees.

  1. To export a tree as a GEDCOM file, in the Family trees list click the Export icon (upper right). A progress sentence shows the current number of people added to the file, and you can continue viewing your tree or even shut down your device while the Export is in progress.
Note : The Export process does not copy media files from your tree to the GEDCOM; you will need to add those items to the new tree.
  2. When the Export finishes, click Download Tree. The GEDCOM file with your tree information is saved to your download folder location. You can use this file to create a family tree on another site if desired.
  3. To delete a tree,
    a) Click its Trash icon, and
    b) Click Remove.
Important : This action cannot be undone.
