Full-Text Search and FamilySearch Records

At the end of August, FamilySearch released full-text search as a feature on their main website. In a nutshell, full-text search enables you to search for keywords in the actual text of the record, even if the record has not yet been indexed. Previously, unindexed records could be quite difficult to work with due to large amounts of scrolling or seeking inside images. As millions of new FamilySearch records are coming online, this gives us a head start in finding ancestor information before computer indexing is available for collections.

This FamilySearch blog article gives an overview of full-text search in FamilySearch, and The Family History Guide has a Choice in Project 4: Discover, Goal 5 to put it into context.

Happy ancestor searching, with full-text search!
