fishing, gardening, carpentry, sewing, crocheting, fly tying, painting, photography, archery, cooking, etc.\u00a0 As you engage in the activity, take time to talk about the ancestor.<\/li>\n<li>Collect and read\u00a0<strong>storybooks<\/strong>\u00a0with a family history theme.\u00a0 A couple of my favorites are the \u201cSong and Dance Man\u201d and \u201cSeven Brave Women.\u201d\u00a0 Search for others, check them out of the library or buy them from used books sites.<\/li>\n<li>Create a\u00a0<strong>Time Capsule<\/strong>.\u00a0 You can find instructions and good questions for your capsule at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/discovery\/activities\/about_me\/10\">https:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/discovery\/activities\/about_me\/10<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Print an 12\u00d717 inch multi-generation fan chart from a genealogy website.\u00a0 Have it laminated and back it with non-slip shelf paper.\u00a0 Use for\u00a0<strong>placemats<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Learn about a\u00a0<strong>family tradition<\/strong>\u00a0and share it with family and friends, example: one of our favorite family traditions is making Grandma\u2019s delicious Norwegian heart waffles.\u00a0 Yum!<\/li>\n<li>At a family gathering,\u00a0<strong>ask a question<\/strong>\u00a0everyone can answer and enjoy the fun conversation that follows, example: \u201cWhat is your favorite childhood vacation?\u201d For more questions you can go to:\u00a0<a href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/Test\/Downloads\/www.thefhguide.com\/project-2-memories03.html\">www.thefhguide.com\/project-2-memories03.html<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Celebrate an ancestor\u2019s birthday or holidays<\/strong>\u00a0by relating stories from your family\u2019s history.\u00a0 You can find significant dates in your family history here:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/campaign\/calendar\">https:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/campaign\/calendar<\/a>.\u00a0 You may also further enjoy holidays by seeing your ancestors in other historic records:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/campaign\/pioneers\/\">https:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/campaign\/pioneers\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/campaign\/militaryrecords\">https:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/campaign\/militaryrecords<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Take a\u00a0<strong>road trip<\/strong>.\u00a0 A consultant at our Family History Center marked his family tree fan chart with the birth and death places of his ancestors.\u00a0 These places became the destinations of his road trip with his family.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Give the gift<\/strong>\u00a0of Family History.\u00a0 Ideas may include: DNA kit, membership to an online genealogy site, genealogy software, framed photo of ancestor(s), digitize old media forms of your family such as VHS, movies, photos.\u00a0 Make a photo book or slide show.<\/li>\n<li>Family History\u00a0<strong>Games<\/strong>.\u00a0 See\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/discovery\/\">www.familysearch.org\/discovery\/<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/act-home.html\">www.thefhguide.com\/act-home.html<\/a>.\u00a0 FH board games are also available.<\/li>\n<li>Organize a\u00a0<strong>family reunion<\/strong>.\u00a0 There are many ways to achieve this from a simple meet in the park with your own dinner and bring any family heirloom or photos to share or it could be organized with T-shirts, games, directories, slide shows, etc.\u00a0 For ideas go to:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/project-6-help03.html\">https:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/project-6-help03.html<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/blog\/en\/family-reunion-ideas-celebrate-family-history\/\">https:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/blog\/en\/family-reunion-ideas-celebrate-family-history\/<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hopefully these activity ideas will inspire you to SHARE FAMILY HISTORY.\u00a0 And as my dad would have said, \u201cHave a little fun along the way!\u201d Janet Helland \u2013 Assistant Director \u2013 Granite Family History Center<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Note: This article by Janet Helland was published previously on the Granite Family History Center blog siteand is used with the author&#8217;s permission. &nbsp;
