{"id":3083,"date":"2018-08-19T13:04:51","date_gmt":"2018-08-19T13:04:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/blog\/?p=3083"},"modified":"2019-01-16T21:05:06","modified_gmt":"2019-01-16T21:05:06","slug":"update-name-changes-for-lds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/blog\/update-name-changes-for-lds\/","title":{"rendered":"Update: Name Changes for &#8220;LDS&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several days ago, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that members, the media, and websites should follow these guidelines in regards to naming:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use the full name of the Church (see above) on first mention, with &#8220;the Church of Jesus Christ&#8221; being an acceptable shortened form.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid the term &#8220;LDS&#8221; when referring to the Church or its members, instead using &#8220;Latter-day Saint&#8221; or &#8220;Latter-day Saints.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Avoid the term &#8220;Mormon&#8221; in referring to the Church or its members.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can see the new style guide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mormonnewsroom.org\/style-guide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>, or read an article summarizing the changes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deseretnews.com\/article\/900028401\/the-church-of-jesus-christ-of-latter-day-saints-issues-new-name-guidelines-dropping-term-mormon-in-most-uses.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Changes in The Family History Guide<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In keeping with these recommendations, we have updated The Family History Guide website to use the<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3087\" style=\"border: 1px solid #000; padding: 0px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/faiths-name-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"173\" height=\"153\" \/> new guidelines. For example, the Faiths menu now includes &#8220;Church of Jesus Christ&#8221; instead of &#8220;LDS&#8221;, and the &#8220;LDS&#8221; references have been changed to &#8220;Latter-day Saints.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Note: We have not changed references to other groups or websites that continue to use &#8220;LDS&#8221; or &#8220;Mormon,&#8221; such as LDS.org, LDSGenealogy.com, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. When these entities change their titles, we&#8217;ll make the corresponding changes on our site.
