FamilySearch has added a fun feature to its Family Tree App entitled “Relatives Around Me” – an easy way to find relatives within minutes! Long-lost cousins are no longer lost – if they \"\"<\/span><\/span><\/span>happen to be within 100 feet of each other, and logged into the\u00a0Family Tree app\u00a0<\/a>at the same time. You will\u00a0find the Family Tree App in the\u00a0FamilySearch.org App Gallery<\/a> (iOS) or you can download the Android app\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0Matt Wright explains what to do next\u00a0in this\u00a0FamilySearch blog post.<\/a>\u00a0He writes that once you and your potential cousin are signed in, you need to “select\u00a0More<\/b>\u00a0at the bottom right of the screen (iOS) or the\u00a0drop-down in the top left (Android) and then select\u00a0Relatives Around Me<\/b>. This opens a page with a green button that says\u00a0Scan for Friends<\/b>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Tap the green button to start scanning. Anyone signed into the app and within range will show up in a list on your device, and you will show up on theirs. Selecting the person\u2019s name will bring up a pedigree graphic showing your common ancestor and the lines through which you both descend.”\u00a0 Matt then asks, “Pretty cool, right?” For sure – I agree that this is one fun feature!\u00a0 My husband and I discovered we are 12th cousins 4 times removed!<\/p>\n
