{"id":1318,"date":"2018-04-26T01:47:04","date_gmt":"2018-04-26T01:47:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/blog\/?p=1318"},"modified":"2019-03-19T17:12:07","modified_gmt":"2019-03-19T17:12:07","slug":"the-family-history-guide-can-help-youth-realize-promised-blessings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/blog\/the-family-history-guide-can-help-youth-realize-promised-blessings\/","title":{"rendered":"The Family History Guide Can Help Youth Realize Promised Blessings"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"line\">In a popular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/music\/library\/childrens-songbook\/follow-the-prophet?lang=eng&amp;_r=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Primary Children&#8217;s Song<\/a>\u00a0by Duane Hiatt, the conditions in which we live (and what to do because of them) are described as follows:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"line\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4618 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/944d847156-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/944d847156-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/944d847156-768x614.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/944d847156-1024x819.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/944d847156.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>&#8220;Now we have a world where people are confused.<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">If you don\u2019t believe it, go and watch the news.<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">We can get direction all along our way,<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">If we heed the prophets\u2014follow what they say.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The prophets and apostles continually help all of us with &#8220;direction along the way.&#8221; As stated in an article entitled,\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/topics\/family-history\/familydiscoveryday\/hope-help-and-protection-for-the-rising-generation?lang=eng&amp;old=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Open The Door To Heaven&#8217;s Help With Family History,<\/a>\u00a0&#8220;Today\u2019s youth are in need of an added measure of protection and blessings to help\u00a0them face the unique challenges confronting their generation&#8230;The empowering\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/prophets-and-apostles\/unto-all-the-world\/spiritual-benefits-of-family-history-work?lang=eng\">blessings<\/a>\u00a0promised by modern prophets and apostles for engaging in family history and temple work are timely, relevant and applicable to everyone.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0The concluding statement in the article reads, &#8220;Family history and temple work opens the door to heaven\u2019s help, crowd out the adversary\u2019s influence, and allow modern technology to be used in the way Heavenly Father intended. Bring these blessings into your own life and the life of your family by beginning your search for family names.&#8221; Here are some promised blessings:<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p data-aid=\"137118571\">My dear extraordinary youth, you were sent to earth at this precise time, the most crucial time in the history of the world, to help gather Israel. There is\u00a0<em>nothing<\/em>\u00a0happening on this earth right now that is more important than that. There is\u00a0<em>nothing<\/em>of greater consequence. Absolutely\u00a0<em>nothing.\u00a0<\/em>This gathering should mean\u00a0<em>everything<\/em>\u00a0to you. This\u00a0<em>is<\/em>\u00a0the mission for which you were sent to earth.\u00a0So my question to you is \u201cAre you willing to enlist in the youth battalion of the Lord to help gather Israel?\u201d&#8230;So, now I am inviting\u00a0<em>every<\/em>\u00a0young woman and\u00a0<em>every<\/em>\u00a0young man between the ages of 12 and 18 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to enlist in the youth battalion of the Lord to help gather Israel&#8230;<em>Anytime<\/em>\u00a0you do\u00a0<em>anything<\/em>\u00a0that helps\u00a0<em>anyone<\/em>\u2014on either side of the veil\u2014take a step toward making covenants with God and receiving their essential baptismal and temple ordinances, you are helping to gather Israel. It is as simple as that. As you pray about this sacrifice of time, you will be guided to know both what you can give up that week and what you can do instead to help gather Israel.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/study\/broadcasts\/worldwide-devotional-for-young-adults\/2018\/06\/hope-of-israel?lang=eng\">Hope of Israel President Russell M. Nelson and Sister Wendy W. Nelson Worldwide Youth Devotional \u2022 June 3, 2018 \u2022 Conference Center, Salt Lake City, Utah<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Elder Richard G. Scott promised protection from and strength to resist the adversary\u2019s temptations\u2014even the ability to \u201celiminate\u201d his influence. He also promised an enriched temple experience when performing family ordinances. (Elder Richard G. Scott, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/general-conference\/2012\/10\/the-joy-of-redeeming-the-dead?lang=eng\">Joy of Redeeming the Dead<\/a>,\u201d General Conference, Oct. 2012).<\/li>\n<li>President Boyd K. Packer promised that we could personally experience the Spirit of Elijah (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/scriptures\/ot\/mal\/4.6?lang=eng\">Malachi 4:6<\/a>), which can have a refining, spiritualizing, and tempering influence in our lives. In his book\u00a0<em>The Holy Temple,<\/em>\u00a0he promised that not only can we have added strength and power to do family history work, but that we can be blessed with added strength and power in \u201call the affairs of life.\u201d (Boyd K. Packer, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/ensign\/2003\/08\/your-family-history-getting-started?lang=eng\">Your Family History: Getting Started<\/a>,\u201d\u00a0<em>Ensign<\/em>, Aug. 2003).<\/li>\n<li>Elder David A. Bednar promised that we could gain a \u201cdeep and abiding\u201d testimony of Jesus Christ (Elder David A. Bednar, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/general-conference\/2011\/10\/the-hearts-of-the-children-shall-turn?lang=eng\">The Hearts of the Children Shall Turn<\/a>,\u201d General Conference, Oct. 2011).<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;&#8230; as we participate in family history and temple work today, we also lay claim to &#8216;healing&#8217; blessings promised by prophets and apostles. These blessings are also breathtakingly amazing because of their scope, specificity, and consequence in mortality. This long list includes these blessings:\n<ul>\n<li>Increased understanding of the Savior and His atoning sacrifice;<\/li>\n<li>Increased influence of the Holy Ghost7 to feel strength and direction for our own lives;<\/li>\n<li>Increased faith, so that conversion to the Savior becomes deep and abiding;<\/li>\n<li>Increased ability and motivation to learn and repent because of an understanding of who we are, where we come from, and a clearer vision of where we are going;<\/li>\n<li>Increased refining, sanctifying, and moderating influences in our hearts;<\/li>\n<li>Increased joy through an increased ability to feel the love of the Lord;<\/li>\n<li>Increased family blessings, no matter our current, past, or future family situation or how imperfect our family tree may be;<\/li>\n<li>Increased love and appreciation for ancestors and living relatives, so we no longer feel alone;<\/li>\n<li>Increased power to discern that which needs healing and thus, with the Lord\u2019s help, serve others;<\/li>\n<li>Increased protection from temptations and the intensifying influence of the adversary; and<\/li>\n<li>Increased assistance to mend troubled, broken, or anxious hearts and make the wounded whole.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">If you have prayed for any of these blessings, participate in family history and temple work. As you do so, your prayers will be answered. When ordinances are performed on behalf of the deceased, God&#8217;s children on earth are healed. No wonder President Russell M. Nelson, in his first message as President of the Church, declared, &#8216;Your worship in the temple and your service there for your ancestors will bless you with increased personal revelation and peace and will fortify your commitment to stay on the covenant path.&#8217; Elder Dale G.
