It reads: &#8220;During the century following the organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1830, almost 40,000 men and women served proselytizing missions. In their travels, they taught in 36 countries and spoke to millions of people. FIVE YEARS! I found it verified on this site, along with a black and white photo I had never seen. The photo features my mustached grandfather apparently as the director of a missionary<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"js_8b9\" class=\"_5pbx userContent _3576\" data-ft=\"{&quot;tn&quot;:&quot;K&quot;}\">\n<p>mandolin group (band). Is this a great photo or what?!<\/p>\n<p>How grateful I am for this devoted missionary and for my grandmother, who he married after her mission to Hawaii. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1199 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Orson-and-May-wedding-pic-yes-223x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"223\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Orson-and-May-wedding-pic-yes-223x300.jpeg 223w, https:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Orson-and-May-wedding-pic-yes.jpeg 620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 223px) 100vw, 223px\" \/>They had met each other before their missions, but my grandmother was &#8220;promised&#8221; to someone else. She and my grandfather became better acquainted on the long ship voyage to Hawaii from the mainland and saw each other a few times while serving their missions. She returned to Utah after serving two years herself (mostly teaching children), broke up with her boyfriend, and waited for Orson to return after three more years!<\/p>\n<p>My father was the youngest of four sons, all of whom were musical. They have truly given our family example to follow.<\/p>\n<p>Their oldest son, Arben, is one of the descendants\u00a0of Orson and May who learned to play the mandolin. He is pictured here playing it at <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1200 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Arben-playing-the-mandolin-at-age-95-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Arben-playing-the-mandolin-at-age-95-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.thefhguide.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Arben-playing-the-mandolin-at-age-95.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>age 95!
